Dimapur-Kohima: Assistance on arrival (0815hrs) and transfer to
Kohima (74kms 3hrs) Overnight at Hotel Japhu. Kohima.
Day 02 - 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th December
Kohima: Full day attain Hornbill festival. Overnight at Kohima. A
picturesque land, endowed with an enchanting panorama of landscape of
evergreen hills, breathtaking valleys and swift rivers flowing down the
mountains, across the deep gorges and narrow vales, exotic flora and fauna,
colorful and glorious culture resounding echoes of dances, music and gay
festivals.
Nagaland is replete with festivities throughout the year as all tribes have
their own festivals, which they hold so dear. But, the Hornbill
Festival sponsored by Department of Tourism Govt. of Nagaland from 1st
to 5th December started last year only has got the place of a common
festival for all Nagas.
The Nagas in the olden days used to look upon the hornbill as an object of
beauty, an inspiration for many folklores and poems. May fertility be
upon you as the mother spider and may your children grow up to be as
handsome as the male hornbill. The festival is a celebration of the
richness of Naga heritage, which the Naga people are trying to exhibit to be
appreciated by the entire world. During the festival one can have a close
look at different Naga tribes in their traditional attire and others events
and items like handloom & handicrafts, indigenous games, beauty pageant,
colours of heritage fashion contest, open music contest etc.
Day 06 - 5th December
Kohima-Wokha: Am drive to Wokha
(80kms 3hrs) literally means census and is the home of Lothas, Lothas are
known for their colourful dances and songs particularly Tokhu Emong and
Pikhuchak are their main festivals. The Tokhu Emong takes place on the 7th
November every year. Opvuram and Longpensu are their prestigious social
shawls for women and men, respectively. Overnight at Tourist Lodge, Wokha.
After returning from Shangnyu village visit Mon Village, here also you will
find tattooed Konyaks. Post lunch drive to Chui village situated about 8kms
from the district headquarters of Mon. Chui village still retains its old
world charm. One can see the Anghs mansion and other houses
constructed in the true Konyak tradition with palm leaves roofing and the
main pillars jutting out. Overnight Mon.
Day 07 - 6th December
Wokha-Mokokchung: Am Drive Mokokchung (75Kms 3hrs). Enroute visit
Longkhum village. A vanguard village of the Aos in the days of headhunting
is strategically situated at an altitude of 1846 meters. The people of this
village are hard working and one can find exquisite handicrafts and handloom
items in this village. On a clear day, on can view the eastern Himalayas of
Arunachal and beyond and also the industrial smoke bellowing from the
industries in Assam. The Aos have a belief that Longkhum is the resting
place of the spirit of dead on their onward journey to paradise. As the
local legend goes- a single visit to Longkhum is not enough
for you have to return to the village again to collect your soulm, which had
stayed behind on your first visit. Overnight at Tourist Lodge, Ungma
village.
Day 08 - 7th December
Mokokchung: Morning excursion to Mopungchukit or Chuchuyimlang
village to see Ao Naga. Overnight at Mokokchung.
Day 09 - 8th December
Mokokchung-Tuensang: Morning drive to Tuensang (115kms 6hrs), the
homeland of Changs,, Yimchungers. Evening visit Helipong village to have
glimpse of the cultural tradition of the Changs, Overnight Circuit House or
P.W.D Rest House, Tuensang.
Day 10 - 9th December
Tuensang-Noklak: Full day excursion to Noklak to see the
Khiamniungan tribe.
Day 11 - 10th December
Tuensang-Mon: Early Morning drive (180Kms 8-9hrs). Enroute visit
Tobu village, here you will see Changs, Yimchungers and Konyaks tribal
living together. Evening free at local Mon O/n Circuit house.
Day 12 - 11th December
Mon-Longwa-Mon:Morning excursion to Longwa to see Konyak tribe.
Day 13 - 12th December
Mon: Full day visit Shangnyu village, this village is ruled by the
Chief Angh is a prominent village in Mon district. There is a wonderful
wooden monument measuring 8 feet in height and 12 feet in breadth- believed
to be constructed by heavenly angels. Human beings and other creatures are
carved on this monument. Memorial stones are also found in front of the Anghs
Palace. History records that good and friendly relationship existed between
the Shangnyu and the Ahom Kings of Assam. Shangnyu Angh use to collect taxes
from all the villages under his domain-extending from Sibsagar in Assam to
the Wanchos in Arunachal.

After
returning from Shangnyu village visit Mon Village, here also you will find
tattooed Konyaks. Post lunch drive to Chui village situated about 8kms from
the district headquarters of Mon. Chui village still retains its old world
charm. One can see the Anghs mansion and other houses constructed in
the true Konyak tradition with palm leaves roofing and the main pillars
jutting out. Overnight Mon.
Day 14 - 13th December
Mon-Dibrugarh: Am Drive (180Kms 8hrs). Enroute visit Wakching
villages which has more then one thousand house manly made of bamboo and
palm and later visit Naganimora, a sub-division in the Mon district and is
sited in Kongan village land. According to legend, a Konyak Queen, Watlong
Konyak, married to an Ahom king died at Lakhan. The king renamed Lakhan as
Naganimora in honour of his dead wife. Nagani means Naga Queen
and Mora meaning death. The dying place of Naga queen. Every
Saturday, there is an interesting

weekly
market here with a medley crowd of Assamese and Konyak Nagas-bringing their
wares for sale. Overnight at Dibrugarh.
Day 15 - 14th December
Dibrugarh-Calcutta/Delhi: Transfer to airport for onward journey.

of the Konyak tribe who wear traditional dresses with feathered headgear and
have tattooed faces. Enroute visit Wakching, a typical Konyak tribal

tribes.

Mon-Tuensang: Morning drive to Tuensang (150kms 8hrs), the homeland
of Chang Naga. Overnight at Circuit House, Tuensang.
Day 06 - 21st February
Tuensang-Noklak-Tuensang:Full
day excursion to Noklak to see Khiamniungan tribe.

Tuensang-Mokokchung: After breakfast drive to Mokokchung (115kms
6hrs drive), This picturesque town is the cultural center of the Ao tribes.
The Ao Nagas is famous for their colourful dances. Overnight at Tourist
Lodge, Ungma village.
Day 08 - 23rd February
Mokokchung: Morning excursion to Mopungchukit or Chuchuyimlang
village to see Ao Naga. Overnight at Mokokchung.
Day 09 - 24th February
Mokokchung-Wokha:After breakfast drive to Wokha (80km 4hrs drive),
Wokha literally means census. There are villages on hilltops, which at once
attract your attention. There are monoliths (Longzu) erected by their rich
ancestors to exhibit their status. Lothas are known for their colourful
dances and songs particularly Shanta, Tokhu Emong and Pikhuchak are their
main festivals. The former takes place on the 7th November every year.
Opvuram and Longpensu are their prestigious social shawls for women and men,
respectively. Overnight at Wokha.

10 - 25th February
Wokha-Tuphema: Drive to Tuphema village (60km, 4hrs) to attain the
Sekrenyi festiva. Overnight Tourist Lodge, Tuphema.
Day 11 - 26th, 27th February
Tuphema village: Full day attain the festival. Overnight at Tuphema.
The Angami celebrate Sekrenyi in the month of February (25th to 27th). It
normally falls on the 25th day of the Angami month of Kezei. The
ten-day festival is also called Phousanyi by the Angamis. Sekrenyi, the
festival of the Angami Nagas, organised by Tuophema village, is a festival
of purification and revolves around the rituals and ceremonies of clearing
the village pond. It is starts with all man, young and old going to the
village pond for bathing in the morning. At night the pond is cleaned by two
youths and to ensure that no one takes water from the cleansed pond, a night
vigil is kept by the youths of the village. The best part of the festival is
Thekra hie on this day all the young men and women of the
village sit together and sing traditional songs over mugs of rice and plates
of meat. It is celebrated in the month of February every year. Angami Tribe
celebrates this festival.

Tuphema-Kohima: Drive to Kohima (42kms). Afternoon local
sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
Day 14 - 1st March
Kohima-Dimapur-Calcutta: Morning transfer to Dimapur 70kms for to
