Arunachal Pradesh is a true wilderness- not widely known; it is a vast stretch of enchanting beauty of lush green vegetation. There is such a floral, and also faunal, diversity that no single species of plant or animal can be said to be the dominant species of the area.

The forest offers great biodiversity of flora & fauna. A detail study of its species and genetic variations has not yet been done. In Arunachal Pradesh, Namdapha is a botanist's dream and it may take as long as 50 years before a comprehensive survey of its botanical resources can be completed. There are more than 150 timber species. The Pinus Merkusi and Abies Delavavi are not found elsewhere in India. One of the rarest and endangered orchids, Blue Vanda occurs here. The most famous local medicinal plant Mishimi Teeta, which is used by the tribals for all kinds of diseases, is available here but its export has been banned.

The diverse habitats of Arunachal Pradesh support diverse species of animals. NAMDAPHA NATIONAL PARK is the only national park of the world, in which four big cats - tiger, leopard, snow leopard and clouded leopard- are found. This impenetrable virgin forest is also the habitat of the endangered Hoolock gibbon - the only ape species found in India. Of the many other important animals are the elephants, black beer, Indian bison, several species of deer, reptiles and a variety of arboreal animals. Among the birds most notable are the White winged wood duck- a rare and endangered species, a wide variety of pheasants and of course the great Indian Hornbill.

The maximum ten days currently allowed are scarcely enough for the birder who wants to see the specialties, many of which are uncommon and shy. It can rain at any time through November to mid-January is driest.
